Honeyman State Park
Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park, also known simply as Honeyman State Park, is located 3 miles south of Florence, Oregon, United States on Highway 101. The park is located along the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, in Lane County. The campground offers several activities, including yurt camping, all-terrain vehicle access, swimming, sandboarding and a group camp.
Originally named Camp Woahink, the park was created by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps), and was later renamed to honor Jessie M. Honeyman (1852-1948) of Portland. As President of the Oregon Roadside Council, Honeyman worked with Samuel Boardman, Oregon’s first superintendent of state parks in the 1920's and 1930's, to preserve Oregon coastal lands. Several park structures built by the CCC -— the camp store, three picnic shelters, and the administrative building -— compose the Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park Historic District. The campground was added in the 1950s. The park is next to Cleawox Lake.

The Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area (or NRA) is located on the Oregon Coast, stretching approximately 40 miles north from the Coos River in North Bend, to the Siuslaw River, in Florence. The park is part of Siuslaw National Forest and is administered by the United States Forest Service. The dunes adjoin Honeyman State Park.
The Oregon Dunes are a unique area of windswept sand that is the result of millions of years of wind, sun, and rain erosion on the Oregon Coast. These are the largest expanse of coastal sand dunes in North America. Some dunes here tower upwards of 500 feet above sea level, providing numerous recreational opportunities including off-road vehicle use, hiking, photography, fishing, canoeing, horseback riding, and camping. The Carter Dunes Trail and Oregon Dunes Day Use provide disabled access for forest visitors.
Author Frank Herbert was inspired (in part) to write the famous science fiction novel Dune based on his research about the dunes of this area.
